Proscar contains an active ingredient Finasteride 5mg. It is a drug used to treat a condition known as BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) in men with an enlarged prostate gland. The condition occurs in men above fifty years and can lead to symptoms such as:

  • An interrupted or weak urine stream.
  • The urge to pass urine often, especially at night.
  • Delay before starts to passing urine.

BPH may lead to the need for surgery to improve passing of urine. The prostate gland does not grow overnight. Hence the symptoms take long to develop. Proscar should be taken for several months for results to be seen. If it works well for the patient, surgery will not be necessary. Proscar may be prescribed to you for other reasons. Hence it is important to know from your doctor why it has been prescribed to you.

Precautions

Should not be taken if:

  • qcdfYou are allergic to its active ingredient or any other ingredients in it.
  • The packaging is tampered with or open.
  • Its Past expiry date on the pack, it will not work.
  • Pregnant or women who might be pregnant should not swallow it or come in contact with broken or crushed tablets. If absorbed in the body of a woman pregnant with a baby boy, it may lead to abnormalities of the baby’s sex organs.

Interactions

Inform your doctor of any other medication you are taking, either prescribed or over the counter. If you have to start a new medication at the time you taking it, please inform your doctor.

How to take Proscar

  • swdsdStrictly follow the doctor’s instructions, do not take more or less, usually a tablet daily.
  •  Swallow it with a glass of water.
  •  Can be taken with or without food.
  • You might be required to take it for six or more months since it shrinks the prostate gland slowly.
